The aroma of freshly brewed coffee smells so good in the morning, doesn't it? How could something that smells and taste so bold and rich possibly be so harmful to our health or occasional can of soda or even caffeinated tea? Caffeine is magical, isn't it? It helps us wake up in the morning, feel that zing of energy at least until lunch time, it occasionally helps us go to the bathroom and it's kind of addicting. Have you ever tried to stop coffee even for just a day, cold turkey? Don't, unless you want to experience shaking, cold and hot flashes, dull headache that lasts all day and overall feeling of misery. So why are we so addicted to it and is there a better alternative that can replace coffee without those horrible withdraws?
Glad you asked.
Let us explore.
Caffeine in pop, tea and coffee (yes even organic coffee) is catabolic and what that means is that it builds energy in the body but at a very high price. It actually creates a very disturbing effect that breaks down the nutrients in your body and can create multiple other issues, leaky gut for one, ulcers due to coffee irritating the stomach lining and cause GI discomfort and pain.
Nervous System: Did you know that when you regularly drink caffeine it can produce anxiety and the symptoms that many coffee drinkers experience are pretty much the same as those people who are under chronic stress. Unexplained irritability, agitation, nervousness, rapid breathing and heart rate, shaking hands and random muscle spasms can be the result of too much coffee.
Heart Disease: Increasing blood pressure, increased nervous tension (anxiety), irregular heartbeat and increase in blood cholesterol all point to serious trouble for the heart, all sparked by regular caffeine use.
Kidney Irritation: prolonged use of caffeine can irritate the kidneys and over time can lead to kidney damage. Caffeine has a role in building up toxins in the blood.
Diabetes and Hypoglycemia: Coffee can increase the level of blood sugar in diabetes and lower it in hypoglycemia.
What happens when you miss a cup of coffee, ever experience brain fog/mental dullness/forgetfulness?
If you have children and it is difficult for you as an adult to make a switch or stop consuming caffeine, think what it does to your child when he/she consumes it. Even a little bit of poison is still poison.
A great friend as well as one of my mentors once said, "try Ginseng tea". I laughed at the idea, however, after personally experiencing several benefits and witnessing so many others that have as well, I wanted to share it with you.
Ginseng Tea is anabolic it helps you build up the energy without the afternoon blues and it also helps break down food into natural sugars that can easily be used by over a trillion cells in our body. It supports the body's energy plant sort of speak.
Anti-stress: when we consume ginseng tea (which is not a hard switch if you do decide to make the shift from coffee), ginseng helps build resistance to stress. If you are constantly stuck in fight-or-flight mode and your adrenals are overworked, ginseng helps relieve them and the nervous system tension.
Brighter Minds: much hopeful research has shown that ginseng has the ability to stimulate mental clarity (without the jitter or changes in hormones or nervous system) resulting in fewer errors at work, better grades in school, general increase in optimism and activity.
Boost to overall Health: herbs have many benefits, especially ginseng which has the ability to cleanse the blood, no wonder it is often referred to as "The Herb of Life". The function of kidneys is to filter the blood. Because of air, water and food pollution, our kidneys can use all the help they can get. Ginseng is also referred to as a healing herb. For years it has been used to help with digestion and restore broken body cells.
Heart Health: scientists found that ginseng can both help lower blood pressure in people suffering from high blood pressure and increase it for those with low blood pressure. Using ginseng regularly can ease tension and the resulting strain on the heart.
Sugar Control: ginseng has been found helpful for its ability to help regulate sugar levels in the blood. It works on restoring the emotional and physical wellbeing.
